Closer to the stars: the Czech Republic is part of a unique international mission

3 minutes

If you're a technology fan like us, and are specifically interested in the field of space research, then you probably know about the upcoming international event called The World's biggest Analog.

What is World´s Biggest Analog?

The World's Biggest Analog (WBA), is an event unparalleled in the field of space mission simulations. Taking place from 13-26 October 2025, it is an international collaboration of researchers, educators and innovators who have come together to create a network of analogue outposts simulating life on the Moon and Mars.

The WBA is the first global analogue mission of its kind, linking more than 15 habitats around the world - from the USA to Brazil, India to Europe. Its main goal is to simulate life and work in extreme conditions beyond Earth, test technologies, develop protocols for future space missions and foster international cooperation. The project is not only scientifically ambitious, but also educational - involving schools, universities, and the general public.

One of the involved entities and also one of the key partners of this mission is Hydronaut, a unique underwater habitat from the Czech Republic.

Hydronaut - Czech contribution to the world mission

The Hydronaut, a special research and training station that was created by Czech hands and on Czech soil, can be found located on the university campus in Prague's Dejvice, within the training centre Little Moon City Prague.

Hydronaut's unique environment allows it to simulate the isolation, limited communication, stressful conditions and technical challenges that astronauts experience on long-duration missions. Habitat is designed to mimic as closely as possible the conditions of a lunar or Mars base - including the limited space, need for collaboration and crisis management.

Within the WBA, he will be part of the Advanced Core Team - a group of the most experienced habitat and mission organizers that form the backbone of the entire WBA project.

As part of the WBA, Hydronaut is involved in research on human behaviour in isolation, testing communication technologies, health protocols and crisis scenarios. Its uniqueness lies not only in its technical design, but also in its ability to stay underwater for long periods of time, making it one of the most realistic analogues outside the US.

Exceptionalism in the Czech context

In Czech conditions, this is an absolutely extraordinary event. Involvement in the WBA means that the Czech Republic is part of a global research that can influence the future of human presence in space. The Hydronaut project shows that technologies and ideas that have a global impact are being developed in our country. Innovation, collaboration and the courage to cross borders are all part of this extraordinary mission.

ITS is supporting Hydronaut and LMCP as a technology partner and we have our fingers crossed for the whole "gang" around the project. Follow the progress of the WBA with us!
