Post-quantum cryptography in practice on Brno soil
2 min

Brno University of Technology (BUT) in cooperation with the South Moravian Innovation Centre (JIC), the National Office for Cyber and Information Security(NUCSIS) and other partners from the project CHESS organized a professional workshop entitled Post-Quantum Cryptography in Practice.
The workshop took place on 13.10.2025 in Brno at the JIC INMEC, the headquarters of the South Bohemian innovation agency JIC, and the event aimed to offer a practical overview of where and how post-quantum cryptography is already being used today - and how companies and the public sector can respond to this development in a timely and effective manner in accordance with new European and national requirements.
In addition to lectures, the meeting also included a practical demonstration of devices using quantum and post-quantum technologies within the framework of projects running at the BUT. The Brno University of Technology is incidentally a member of a consortium of universities within the Quantum Innovation Center Czech, of which ITS is a technology partner.
The workshop provided a very technical and technological insight into quantum computing and related threats. The whole topic was introduced by the representatives of NUCIB, here it is worth mentioning the activities of the office and the already existing manuals and recommendations, which are quite practical guidance for the transition to quantum-resistant security. A link to the documents can be found at the end of the article.
The discussion also included NIST standards, the term crypto-agility, and current estimates of when Q-day will come. An interesting and slightly different point of view was brought by a representative of a banking institution in the session entitled Quantum storm in a glass of water, where a longer time horizon for the onset of quantum threats was pointed out for a change, relying on the calculations achieved so far (factorization of prime numbers).
It is difficult to predict exactly what will happen next, but what is certain is that the whole topic of post-quantum cryptography is coming more and more to the fore. Not only within academia, but also as part of national security policy and many other spheres. We are glad that we could also participate in this particular workshop, exchange new information and be part of a growing community.
And finally, the promised links to the NUCIB portal and publicly available documents:
