Quantum Innovation Center: a unique concept for training quantum experts

2 min

Another major milestone for the quantum future of the Czech Republic took place this morning on the campus of the Czech Technical University (CTU).

Representatives of major Czech educational institutions, the Ministry of Defence and IBM, as well as ITS - met on the occasion of the presentation of the project Quantum Innovation Center.

And what is the Quantum Innovation Center (QIC) and what makes it so important?

We dare to say that QIC is a project that is without exaggeration the future of the Czech Republic in the field of quantum computers and post-quantum cryptography.

It is significant in its composition alone - it is a unique consortium worldwide, bringing together the most important universities and institutions from the Czech Republic:

  • Czech Technical University (CTU)
  • Academy of Sciences (AS)
  • University of Defence (UNOB)
  • Charles University (UK)
  • Palacký University in Olomouc (UP)
  • Masaryk University in Brno (MUB)
  • and the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (ZČU)

into a unique interconnected organism with common goals of training much needed quantum computing specialists.

The common objectives of the QIC are therefore primarily:

  • Support for research and development of quantum technologies
  • Focus on education and training of students and researchers
  • sharing know how and capacity by IBM
  • Promoting cooperation between universities
  • Establishing follow-up joint research projects and grants

In cooperation with IBM, a global technology leader in the field of quantum computing and a major contributor to the initiation and promotion of the project, ITS is also participating in the project.

And we are more than proud to be a part of this "quantum building block" with ITS. in the role of technology partner, which is in charge of the umbrella mechanism for enrolling in its own courses, which are implemented in collaboration with IBM. Students of all participating institutions have the exclusive opportunity to easily enroll in additional courses.

The official press release of CTU can be read here.

The aim is to direct more people into this new field and to train future specialists in the quantum field. We believe that together we will not only succeed, but that the Czech Republic will maintain its excellent position in this segment.
